About this event
How do we raise children who will stand up to exclusion, prejudice, and injustice?
Kids for Racial Justice presented an interactive workshop with experienced 5th grade teacher, DEI practitioner, and mother Victoria Lebrón. Victoria modeled how she uses books to invite children into discussions about diversity, equity, and inclusion. An interactive read aloud of The Day You Begin, by Jacqueline Woodson let participants experience how open-ended questions can activate empathy and encourage taking a stand.
Parents and caregivers came away with a deeper understanding of how to use children’s books to foster empathy and support action, as well as practical resources, including a list of questions and conversation starters, book suggestions (from early childhood through high school), and more.
